The short explanation of this alert was:

Major power companies and the current White House administration are telling Americans that coal is the future of affordable energy. But increased greenhouse gas emissions, dangerous coal mining, mercury pollution, increased asthma and human health problems, and dramatic groundwater waste are costs that no one can afford. There simply is no such thing as "clean coal."

Investments made in new facilities today will determine our energy sources for decades to come. Power companies such as Peabody, Dominion and others need to pay attention to their shareholders and their power customers and halt climate change, stop building new coal plants, and shift the billions of dollars they are spending on coal into green and renewable energy like solar and wind, as well as energy efficiency.

Sempra, a major power company and competitor, recently agreed to pull out of building coal-fired power plants in the United States. The other big power companies need to follow Sempra's lead.  Click on the orange send button at right to send your email to the following power company executives:
