The June 15th California legislative budget deadline has long passed with no agreement in sight.

This stalemate is not a new story. Every year the legislature and Governor fight over funding for everything from K-12 education to transportation to assistance for the disabled. Funding for critical programs keeps disappearing, yet the Republicans constantly want to cut taxes for corporate interests.

Last week, the California Assembly passed a budget bill, which Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signaled he would sign. Unfortunately, it also includes billions in cuts to public transportation programs, human services funding and the environment, as well as unnecessary tax credits for the movie and oil industries.

We can't give tax cuts to business while at the same time slashing needed funding for critical health care assistance and environmental programs.

Tell your State Senator to approve a budget compromise that ensures funding for education, health care assistance, and the environment -- without tax cuts for corporations.
